“Mnemosyne”. This film is not typical for Michał Brzeziński’s artistic works. Painterly, plastic, it moves in the circle of veiled signs and ambiguous symbols. The image is elusive, avoids easy interpretation. The title recalls the mythological goddess of memory, daughter of Uranus and Gaea, mother of the nine Muses.

“Mnemosyne” is an attempt to get to subconsciousness, to memory. The artist puts a question if it is possible to move outside the realm of signs, and if video can get into the sphere of subconsciousness and images generated by it without manipulating what is real, at the same time having an effect on the viewer by the means of pure language of the medium - image and sound. Brzeziński’s video is an attempt to render a state experienced in meditation, where a man reaches beyond his individual existence. There are no divisions - spirit, memory, matter blend in one. What makes “Mnemosyne” different from other contemplative works is that this film is not the image of a meditating artist, but the image for meditation. It equally affects the artist and the recipient of art.

Michał Brzeziński is a unique artist on the contemporary video scene. He does not move in the circle of fashionable issues, does not take part in popular discourses. He is a graduate of culture studies at the University of Łódź; thus a theoretician. For him, theory is extremely important. Through the medium of film he engages in a direct dialogue with a viewer and sets to redefine the video language of the digital age.

Metaartistic issues are just one of the many fields of Brzeziński’s artistic activity. By the means of electronic media he tries to reconstruct the “I” of the disintegrating subject. Here he does not stop at a fragment, but consistently examines the sources of contemporary identities. He moves from the screen to the body, then to the mind and eye; he searches cultural, religious and social contexts and reaches beyond them. He is concerned with the spirituality of a contemporary man and its position in the cacophony of images.

“Mnemosyne” is an attempt to get into the sphere of pure memory, the domain of the goddess Mnemosyne. The space appears here as a revived memory, animated thanks to the specificity of the used medium.

Proof of development for the game was found when, on September 21, 2006, a leaked RAR file contained concept art, although no comment was made by Ubisoft. Also, on January 23, 2008, some screenshots from the game when it was in conception were leaked onto the internet, and again Ubisoft made no comments.

On April 1, 2008, Ubisoft registered the domain princeofpersiaprodigy.com, providing further evidence that the game was in progress.

In May 2008, Ubisoft confirmed the game a work-in-progress. They stated that they expect to release the game towards the fourth quarter of 2008, and gave many details about the plot and gameplay in this game. In one such interview, they stated that the general staples of the gameplay are to remain intact, including platforming, combat, and puzzle solving. Ubisoft has stated that an equal balance of the three elements will be featured in the game, and that the Prince has more acrobatic abilities then ever. He is able to “defy gravity” in many different ways. The game is also to focus more on one-on-one combat, similar to the original Prince of Persia trilogy, rather than fighting almost dozens of enemies at a time, like in the Sands of Time trilogy. Ubisoft stated that the reason for changing the combat was that it would give players the illusion that each enemy was a unique challenge in itself, instead of “just another enemy”.

The game is to use a heavily modified version of the Scimitar Engine, which was also used in Assassin’s Creed. Developers chose to use a modified version of this engine because it would allow them to enhance the game by making more land, and less linearity. Developers also chose to implement an illustrative graphical style, similar to cel-shaded graphics, but with more detail drawn in; they call it “illustrative”.

The game begins with the new Prince, a wanderer and an adventurer, returning home with a treasure he earned on his last adventure. His plans to spend this wealth on women and liquor are, however, thwarted by a sudden fierce sandstorm. When it subsides, the Prince finds himself in a garden of mythical beauty, dominated by a massive Tree of Life at its center. The Prince soon meets a girl named Elika and teams up with her. Together, they venture to the center of the grand oasis, only to witness the destruction of the Tree and the freeing of Ahriman, an ancient god of darkness who starts corrupting the lands with evil. With the aid of Elika and her newfound powers, the Prince takes up arms against Ahriman’s corruption, in an attempt to drive it back and cleanse the world.

Create a blog using free software from wordpress.org and get tips on why, if you want to become a serious blogger, if you want to make money with your blog or, if you want to control your blog, then using free blogs such as blogger.com or wordpress.com is NOT an option … You must own your blog.

Here’s why …if you use hosted solutions such as blogger.com or wordpress.com, they can delete your site without your permission and there is nothing you can do about it. Also, using hosted sites to host your blog means that you have limited opportunities of monetizing your blog because some of them don’t allow you to make the most of advertising with say Google AdSense.

Wordpress.com for example makes it very clear that it is against their terms of service to commercialize your Wordpress.com hosted blog by hosting paid advertising and will result in your blog being deleted.

In fact, I’ve just been reading one forum where there is a reader called “Rainmaker” and he seems to have made it his job to report people who are commercializing their WordPress blogs and within no time, their sites have been deleted by WordPress. So don’t say you haven’t been warned.

What you need to do is go to WordPress.org and download their free software and then upload the software to the server where you have your own hosting account, using your own domain name. Alternatively, you can use the automated feature found in many control panel web hosts - fantastico.

So, whilst Wordpress is the software I recommend for your blogs, you should not confuse this with their hosted solutions where you simply log into their control panel, create a user name and password and suddenly, you have a blog that in my view, you don’t own.

The software that you download from WordPress.org is quite simply powerful and, once I show you how, you’ll realize it’s also easy to use and in my opinion is unparalleled in the blog software world. WordPress is not only my software of choice it is used my many of the top Internet Marketers because it’s simple enough for the newbie to use, yet sophisticated enough for the pro blogger.

Wordpress has a huge library of plugins that allows users to instantly add features, and functions to give it even more flexibility and, when you add up all these elements you end up with a program that is fully capable of creating highly attractive blogs that encourage people to visit the site and stay to read whatever is posted on it. If you ever wanted powerful blog software that was able to give you the opportunity of creating a more unique look and feel, Wordpress is it.

To get Get Started With A WordPress Blog and assuming you’re going to go along with my recommendation of building a WordPress blog on your own hosting account, you’ll need a domain name which you can get from godaddy.com and a hosting account which you can get from hostgator.com.

This film was put together by General Motors to trumpet their “Highways and Horizons” exhibit (which included the Futurama) at the 1939-40 New York World’s Fair. It opens in b&w, as a wistful, utopian narrator explains how Americans are always striving for “new horizons,” and “new ways of doing things.” Then the film turns color, and we are taken into the G.M. pavilion, where we slowly pan over “the wonder world of 1960″ — an immense, miniature diorama designed by Norman Bel Geddes. An eerie organ-of-the-future plays as the narrator shows us an autocentric world — complete with 100 mph freeways and city traffic systems “designed to bypass undesirable slum areas.” “Does it seem strange? Unbelievable?” the narrator asks, as we look at a world that is unbelievable almost 35 years after it was supposed to exist. “We are all interested in the future, for that is where we will spend the rest of our lives!” An evocation of an abundant future and a unique little piece of film history.” –Ken Smith

Segments:
a. Series of driving POV shots. We move forward on various paths and roads starting with a grassy path, dissolving to a dirt road, next a road that looks as though its got wooden planks, then a wooden bridge, and finally we veer off to another narrow dirt road. All that’s seen in this sequence are the roads and the rugged land surrounding them.

b. Short but excellent driving POV first past a woman using a water pump in her front yard and next to a visceral image of children running towards their schoolhouse.

c. Short but nice driving POV. We see out the top corner of the passenger’s window which gives us a view of the beautiful desert we rapidly drive by as well as the interior of the car.

d. Series of driving POV up hills/mountains and around hair pin turns. We drive by green hills, rocky desert areas, snowy pine trees, and gently rolling hills all the while coming dangerously close to the edge. Sometimes dizzying as we round the turns.

e. Excellent pan of crowds at the 1939/40 New York World’s Fair waiting to get inside of the General Motors building. As the camera pans the people in line (several of whom look at the camera), the film changes from black and white to Technicolor. A man waves at the camera as it continues to pan the area.

f. More footage of lines going into the Futurama exhibit in the General Motors building. This time we view the area where the line wraps around several levels. As the camera pans the line, it is clear that the lines were intended to be part of the architecture of the building.
